Dr. Nicola’s Favorite At-Home Healing Tools

When you’re living with Lyme, mold illness, MCAS, or other chronic conditions, sometimes it feels like your body just needs more ways to recharge and restore—right from home. Two of my favorite supportive tools that I personally use and recommend are red light therapy and far-infrared (FIR) sauna therapy.

Red light therapy is wonderful for helping your cells create more energy. Think of it like giving your mitochondria—the powerhouses of your cells—a boost of sunlight they can actually use. Patients often notice improvements in energy, mood, inflammation, and even sleep when they use it regularly.

Far-infrared sauna, on the other hand, helps the body gently detox through sweating. This can be so important when you’re dealing with toxins from mold or other chronic infections. It also helps improve circulation, relaxes the nervous system, and often leaves people feeling calmer and clearer.

What I love most is that both of these therapies are gentle enough to start slowly and build up over time. Even just a few minutes of red light therapy or a short sauna session a couple times a week can make a noticeable difference when used consistently.

For at-home use, my go-to brand is Therasage. They design their products with people like my patients in mind—low EMF, portable, and high quality. My personal favorites are the Thera360 Plus Portable Sauna and the TheraTriLight Plus Red/NIR Panel.

As always, start slow, listen to your body, and reach out if you’d like help figuring out how to integrate these tools into your healing plan.

P.S. Many patients find that pairing sauna sessions with binders and electrolytes makes detox much smoother. Small adjustments like that can really help!
