Prolotherapy — short for proliferation therapy—is a non-surgical treatment which stimulates the body’s own natural healing mechanisms to repair musculoskeletal tissue. Prolotherapy uses substances like dextrose (sugar), procaine (anesthetic) and platelet rich plasma injected into an area in need of repair to strengthen weakened ligaments and tendons and produce new collagen tissue. Prolotherapy has been shown to be effective in conditions such as:

  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Ankle Sprain
  • Arthritis
  • Back Pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Degenerative Joint Disease
  • Golfer’s Elbow
  • Hamstring Tendinopathy
  • Hip Pain
  • Joint Degeneration
  • Joint Instability
  • Joint Pain
  • Knee Injuries and Pain
  • Knee Meniscal Tears
  • Low Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Rotator Cuff Tendonitis and Tears
  • Sacroiliac Laxity
  • Sports Injuries
  • Tendinopathy
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Wrist Pain

Prolotherapy has a very high success rate with, for example, 85 to 95% of patients with low back pain experiencing relief as opposed to 52% improvement with back surgery. Approximately 4 to 6 treatments are usually needed for maximal improvement to be experienced. If you have questions about prolotherapy please contact Dr. Winter at
