I have been treating people with Lyme and coinfections since 1997. People who have suffered for many years recover best when they utilize a comprehensive approach, especially one that includes optimal nutrition.

This book is a must-read for anyone who is serious about recovering from chronic illness. The reader will surely benefit from Dr. McFadzean’s comprehensive collation of wisdom in a user-friendly format.

The Lyme Diet is packed with hundreds of ideas about how to forge a multi-
pronged attack on Lyme disease. It provides practical suggestions about how to
switch to a diet that will support the body’s natural healing systems and
incorporate food as part of the treatment plan. It is filled with creative ideas that
make embracing healthy eating a pleasure. Dr. Nicola gives detailed information
on which foods and beverages to choose and which to avoid. She includes lists
throughout the book, making shopping for groceries and purchasing supplements
easy with these time-saving tools.
The book covers anti-inflammatory foods, gluten-free foods, foods low in
mercury, and foods low on the glycemic index. Dr. Nicola explains why eliminating
dairy products and foods containing sugar is essential. She includes tips that
make what could otherwise be a daunting task easily manageable. An enormous
amount of information is presented in an easy-to-read, conversational style,
leading the reader to feel that the author is right in the room, acting as his or her
own personal advisor. Because The Lyme Diet is based on Dr. Nicola’s clinical
experience, gathered over years of caring for Lyme patients, it contains a great
deal of information which isn’t available elsewhere. This is a book that Lyme
patients, those preparing meals for Lyme patients, and those treating Lyme
patients should read from cover to cover and keep close at hand for future
reference.

This books strength lies in its ability to lovingly and candidly assist Lyme disease patients with a step by step guide on how to implement crucial nutritional changes that are imperative for those of us fighting this horrible and complicated disease. As a Lyme sufferer myself; who was misdiagnosed for 9 years, I had no choice but to turn to nutrition for at least some of the answers. I can genuinely attest to the fact that, had it not been for a proactive decision to research and implement nutritional changes, I would probably not be here today. Lyme disease creates havoc in our bodies, ranging from severe nutritional and hormonal imbalances to possible organ failure. Dr. McFadzean has beautifully used her expertise to compile this easy to read and easy to follow guide on how to better supplement, support, and nourish the body as a whole when fighting this difficult battle. “Natural and Nutritional Healing Strategies for Lyme Disease offers patients the information on needed resources, drug & supplement interactions, treatment options, lab and testing facilities, we are so often scrambling for. This book is comprehensive, and abundant with detailed information that will make a difference in your journey towards health. Best of all, it is a book that is encouraging to those of us who need it the most. It gives us the power to become educated and equips us to be active participants in the nutritional choices that we need to make. I wish this book had been available years back; it would have made my long and arduous journey an easier one. Thank you Dr. Mcfadzean, you are a lifeline in an otherwise dismal quest for answers to those of us who suffer from Lyme disease.

This book is my bible. I’m battling lyme and my doctor suspects I’ve had it for 15 years or so. I’m 32, feel like my body and mind is that of a 90 year old which is quite frustrating given that I was and was an active, energetic, driven, light hearted teenager and even into my early 20’s.
This book has been informative, inspirational, and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you a million times over for this book, simply adding a protein shake in the morning has made a world of difference in my diet. Without this book, I wouldn’t have known where to begin with the gluten free diet which I was planning on starting anyway but put it off b/c it was so daunting. I’m 99% gluten free for 3 weeks and it’s made such a difference, again, I can’t thank you enough. Simply amazing!

Take care,
