Dr. Nicola’s Insights In To Lyme Disease Treatment

As numbers of diagnosed Lyme disease patients in Australia grows, the level of government and medical recognition is painfully slow in adapting to the need for information, awareness and acceptance of the problem. Bec Mills, a researcher and documentary film maker, is taking matters into her own hands and is generating a wealth of information which is accessible to all through her YouTube clips and documentaries. On my recent trip to Australia to speak at the 2013 Lyme Symposium, I […]

Beginners Guide to Lyme Disease – Diagnosis and Treatment Made Simple

Beginners Guide to Lyme Disease is a new Lyme book just released by Dr. Nicola McFadzean For most people a diagnosis of chronic Lyme disease brings with it a lot of emotion.  For some it’s relief, as finally they have a name for what they’ve been experiencing all these years, and confirmation that they’re not crazy; for others, it’s a devastating, momentous finding and one that brings with it a lot of anxiety and fear. Either way, people who are […]

Australia Lyme Disease Protests

As awareness of Lyme disease in Australia grows, the movement towards government recognition will also build. A recent protest led by Lyme sufferers in Australia demonstrates that. But will the government accept that patients with Lyme disease in Australia could have been infected there, or will they continue to deny its existence even in the light of solid evidence to the contrary? Much of the government’s denial of Lyme disease in Australia is based on a study done in 1994, […]

Diets for Lyme Disease

Navigating the most appropriate diet for a Lyme disease patient can be difficult, but good nutrition is such a crucial part of any treatment regimen that it is well worth addressing. Lyme disease is an illness caused by bacteria that is typically transmitted via ticks, but may also be spread via lice, fleas, mosquitos and other insects. I believe that maintaining optimal nutrition is crucial for Lyme disease sufferers, but there is limited information on what people should eat, and […]

Lyme Disease Tests

Chronic Lyme disease is predominantly a clinical diagnosis. Lab tests are used to back up the clinical impression and positively identify the presence of Lyme disease and co-infections.   ELISA First test done as screening test. ELISA is measuring an immune reaction but is not highly sensitive – most cases missed. A negative ELISA test does not rule out Lyme disease. This is not considered to be a sensitive test.

Functional Medicine Testing – The Top 5 Tests

The top five tests everyone should do (that won’t break the bank)! Adrenal and Reproductive Hormone Levels Ok, so maybe I don’t have my kids do this test, but most adults can glean useful information from it.  Cortisol is the stress hormone, so it can be impacted by any kind of stressor on the body from chronic pain and inflammation to sleep disturbance to nutritional imbalance. Imbalances in reproductive hormones (estrogen, progesterone and testosterone) in both men and women cause […]

Lyme Disease Treatment in Australia

I have just returned from a trip to Australia, both visiting family and consulting with Lyme patients.  There are some really sick people Down Under, and very few doctors who are aware enough, knowledgeable enough, and/ or willing enough, to help. A major part of the problem is that the Australian authorities have, at least up until this point, denied that Lyme disease exists in Australia.  Yet last year a gentleman by the name of Karl McManus passed away and […]

Lyme Disease – The Great Imitator

Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) is the spirochete (spiral-shaped) bacteria that causes Lyme Disease. While traditionally thought to be transmitted primarily by infected deer ticks, researchers and doctors have now found live spirochetes of Lyme in fleas, mites, and mosquitoes. And although it was first thought the disease couldn’t be transmitted directly from human to human, the live spirochetes have now also been found in blood, urine, tears, semen, breast milk, cord blood, and vaginal secretions. Many doctors who specialize in treating […]
